In my role as Director of Studies of the Bachelor European Studies at Maastricht University I became interested into research into teaching. I noticed that most policy is based on informed intuition rather than on solid empirical evidence. Together with my colleague Patrick Bijsmans, who has been Director of Studies in the past, we are interested in determinants of study success particularly in Problem Based Learning settings. Our first article looks at the impact of attendance and we currently investigate whether international groups are increasing student's performance. In line with the CORE strategy of Maastricht University we integrate research and education and we invite Bachelor students to participate in this research project and to develop their own research ideas.
